School should accept the results gracefully and apologize to parents for letting them down.

Dharmadhikari should stop spreading misinformation that parents are very happy. The advert in Straits Times on Friday says that 'GIIS students are sought after by' some famous universities. Both are false claims and exaggerations with intention to mislead potential customers.

Class XII students were taken together for photo shoot wearing graduation gown even before results came out. One in every 6 did not pass. What will they feel ? School should apologize to all the students for misguiding them. Many of them do not know they were being misled.

The same students had done much better in class X two years ago. Which means teaching in class XI and XII was a disaster.

How much teaching time was lost due to Global Indian Harmony and other show biz ? Can Temurnikar or Dharmadhikari restore the time and youth robbed from these youngsters ?

The school claims to have several
well qualified and experienced maths teachers. Were they all reserved for IGCSE and IB ?

One would hate to split the parent community, but it is likely tha CBSE students might have got a raw deal in the current setup.

I agree with calculus. School should clearly indicate which teachers are reserved for certain groups only, whether it is Koreans, IB, IGCSE, class XII only, X only, or whatever.

Otherwise these experts are only for show value, plentiful like the advisors and patrons but of no use.

We should congratulate the successful GIIS students who have managed to do well despite the many disturbances and many negative factors that thay have to face - too many change of heads, too many advisors, too many swamijis, too many celebrations and cultural shows, too many IIT and AIEEE coaching schemes, too many teachers leaving and joining, too little planning etc.,,

Added to the disadvantage of lack of a competetive atmosphere, the above factors do not help teenagers much. A serious soul searching is needed by the management. Instead what we see are advertisements released to compete against "a news item on inauguration of another school". Misguided vision and objectives. Will Justice Dharmadhikari now tell us where was the need for such a big advertisement when other schools like ISS, OFS, Tanglin,UWC,SAS and ACS do not feel the need to do it, despite perhaps better placement records???

I do agree with the calculus part Srividya Balachander is not fit for teahing class xii maths. Her teaching is horrendous. Ever since she took over the maths from Mrs. Selvis Thomas and Mrs. Archana Ksurkar maths in class xii had been going down the drains. She always taught short cut maths to the students by omitting steps whereas in CBSE thgere is marks for each step. She never used to complete all the exercises and never bothered to see or push the students for homework to be submitted. She was more interested in nher own personal coaching classes. What else can you expect from the sudents When you have such teachers? Mrs. Mali Nandakumar always used to boast that she was a CBSE teacher but her way of teaching English was anything but the CBSE way. She had taught many wrong format for the writing section but the students were lucky that she left and K.P.Sheeja started teaching them. It was then that all the flaws in her teaching were found. But the worst of the whole lot of teachers was Mrs. Dhepa Narayanan who used to teach Computer Sc.The only thing that she did was politics among the children and used the divide and rule poklicy in the class. She had never taught in any school but used to boast that she had taught in NPS Bangalore. The project that had to be done for Comp.Sc. was a garbage as she had made the students do projects not prescribed by the board. Most of the students hyad to re-do their entire project and that too in the month of October. But when there is something bad , there is also something good and that was in the form of Mr. Rajesh Daoo who joined as the computer science teacher. Had it not been for him then the students would have failed in computer science also.
So when you have such a situation in school how do you expect the students to perform well? School will blame the students and finish their duty but who will take the responsibiloity of the futyre of these students?

It is not a bad idea to get the views of the three toppers OR even a few others and get their views on which of their teachers did a good job and which ones did not. This is what the school should be doing but it may not. So, the blog authors may have to do this service for the benefit of the next set of students.

The state of mathematics is in shambles with teachers being replaced and recruited like peanuts!

This blog had highlighted the problems with teaching of mathematics in Nov 2007 itself.

Mr Joshi ,vice principal of Junior College is a maths teacher and he is expecetd to supervise the department of Math. Can we hear from him, please? And why are we taking teachers to task? What are the vice principals and principal doing? Is not the management of GIIS and GIF board responsible? Where are the academic advisors and international advisors? Where are the patrons?

Anonymous said...

1. Mr Joshi may be teaching only IB/IGCSE but he is vice principal, so he has a responsibility.

2. about patrons, advisors... if GIIS does not tom tom this result to them they have the excuse of being ignorant (that is their excuse anyway). you and i have no access to patrons, advisors or even to so called 'justice' GIF vp. so they escape the responsibiity.

But we shouldnt let them off easily. I have a proposal. If you know any parent who works in infosys it may help to reach to Mr Narayan Murthy... said to support better Maths standard. He may not care about ten parents in Singapore but let us make contact first ?

The Graduation Ceremony of the first batch of CBSE Class 12 was celebrated at Queenstown GIIS campus on 20th March ’08, according to Newsletter #209.

It reports principal GSS Rao telling the outgoing students that "You will be benchmarking success for GIIS as the first graduating batch".

The students are being used as objects for photo shoot etc but the school does not care for their future.

I like your analysis/presentation that you have highlighted the average. To know the real quality of the school you have to look at the average, and not be limited to the topper's marks.

AS A CLASS XII PARENT I AM HIGHLY CONCERNED ABOUT THESE RESULTS.

THE PROBLEM AFTER OBSERVING THE SCHOOL TEACHING PATTERN FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS IS THAT THERE IS A LACK OF UNDERSTANDING CBSE PATTERN OF QUESTIONING RIGHT FROM CYCLIC TESTS LEVEL. CBSE CONDUCTS SEMINARS EVERY YEAR AND MANY SCHOOLS IN INDIA SEND THEIR TEACHERS TO KEEP THEM UPDATED WITH SYLLABUS REVISIONS AND PATTERNS

THE SCHOOL SEEMS TO CONCENTRATE MORE ON IB RATHER THAN CBSE. CBSE STREAM IS MADE TO LOOK INFERIOR RIGHT FROM NON AIRCONDITIONED CLASSROOMS (DOWNGRADED RECENTLY) AND SHUFFLING THE BEST TEACHERS TO IB.

FOR EXAMPLE, CBSE HAS HIGHERORDER THINKING QUESTIONS IN ALL SUBJECTS FOR ABOUT 10 PERCENT OF THE PAPER. THE SCHOOLS (ALL) CONCENTRATE ON THAT BEFORE THE MOCKS AS THEY MAKE SURE THE STUDENTS ARE WELL VERSED IN THE CHAPTER IN THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR AND THE CONCEPTS. BUT GIIS SEEMS TO GIVE THESE ON THE CYCLIC TESTS (THIS HAS HAPPENNED AFTER THE RESULTS). WHEN THE STUDENTS ARE NOT WELL VERSED IN THE BASIC CONCEPTS, WHICH IS BEING RUSHED THROUGH AS THEY NEED TO COMPLETE PORTIONS, HOW ARE THEY EXPECTED TO ANSWER COMPLICATED QUESTIONS.

AND BEFORE THE CYCLIC TEST, THE TEACHERS WARN THE STUDENTS THAT THEY WLL LOSE 10 MARKS AS THEY CANT ANSWER THE QUESTIONS.

AND WHEN FORWARDED THE TEST QUESTION PAPER TO A CBSE VETERAN IN INDIA, THE TEACHER REPLIED THAT SHE HAS NEVER SEEN THESE QUESTIONS, AND ARE NOT RELEVANT.

SO WHATS LACKING IS TEACHING EFFECTIVELY THE CBSE WAY AND NOT THE GIIS WAY

Anonymous said...

Hilarious that the graduation ceremony was celebrated before the results were declared!

The school has still not declared the class xii results which is like fooling us parents.

The senior management including principal and his coterie of vice principals must be planning some extravagant event to divert attention.

It is a shame that academics have to suffer due to the policies of the management.

I DONT THINK THE SCHOOL WILL EVER DO ANYTHING. THEY WILL WAIT FOR THE HEAT TO DIE DOWN AND THEN START OF BY ADVERTISING IB STUDENTS SPECIALLY OF THE HEAD PREFECT AND HEAD BOY BOTH IN IB. AND . DHEEPA NARAYANAN DID POLITICS. SHE TORTURED THE STUDENTS BY CALLING THEM UP AT 12 AT NIGHT AND INTERROGATING THEM WHETHER THEY HAD A CRUSH ON SOME GUY OF THE CLASS WHO WAS HER FAVOURITE STUDENT. SHE USED TO SHOWCASE HIM IN EVERY EVENT IN THE SCHOOL. SHE DESTROYED LIVES THATS ALL I CAN SAY. SHE HAS NEVER TAUGHT. HAVE ANYONE OF YOU HEARD OF CLASS 12 STUDENTS GOING TO GENTING IN THE MONTH OF MAY????!! NO! WELL HERE IT HAPPENED. WHAT SURPRISES ME IS THAT I HAVE ALWAYS HEARD THAT TEACHERS ARE GOD'S MESSENGER BUT HERE THEY ARE DEVIL'S MESSENGER. THE RESULT OF THE SCHOOL IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE STUDENTD BUT OF THE TEACHERS WHO TAUGHT THEM. I KNOW U KNOW THAT NOTHING WILL HAPPEN BECAUSE THEY HAVE HIDING PLACES. IF WE RAISE OUR VOICE THE OUTCOME WILL BE NOTHING. NOTHING HURTS THE SCHOOL MANAGEMENT. THEY HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN PRODUCING A GROUP OF 30 AIMLESS PEOPLE WHOSE FUTURES ARE COVERD WITH FOG. THEY START THEIR LIVES WITH THE UNCERTAINITY OF THEIR FUTURE AND END IT WITH THE ENDLESS DARKNESS OF FAILURE. WHAT DOES IT MATTER TO THE SCHOOL OR TEACHERS. THEY ARE NOT THEIR CHILDREN SO IT DOES NOT BURN THEIR SKIN. BUT IT BURNS THE SKIN OF THOSE PARENTS WHOSE CHILDREN HAVE SUFFERED.

Anonymous said...

TALKING OF OUT OF SYLLABUS QUESTIONS DHEEPA NARAYANAN HAD ACTUALLY CHANGED QUESTIONS IN THE QUESTION PAPER JUST BECAUSE HER FAVOURITE STUDENT DID NOT KNOW THE ANSWER TO IT. SHE ALWAYS MADE THE PAPER SUCH THAT IT WAS EASY FOR HER FAVOURITE STUDENT. SHE USED TO TAKE EXTRA CLASSES AND ONLY CLEAR THE DOUBTS OF HER YET AGIN HER FAVOURITE STUDENT. ALL OF YOU WILL BE SURPRISED TO KNOW WHO HER FAVOURITE STUDENT WAS. ALL HIS MISTAKES WERE PARDONABLE. IF HE WALKED AROUND THE CLASS DURING HER LECTURE HE WAS NOT CHIDED. BUT IF SOME OTHER STUDENT DID SO THEY WOULD BE SENT OUT OF THE CLASS. SHE HAD MISPLACED THREE COMPUTER SCIENCE PRACTICAL JOURNALS AND THE STUDENTS HAD TO REDO IT IN FEBRUARY. HER FAVOURITE STUDENT'S BOARD PROJECT WAS DONE BY HER. SHE FORCED STUDENTS TO FOLLOW HER OTHERWISE SHE WOULD BLACKMAIL. SRIVIDYA HAS NEVER BEEN A TEACHER. SHE ONLY RUNS HER TUITION CENTRE. SHE WOULD GAIN RAPORT WITH THE STUDENTS BY GIVING THEM FREE PERIODS AND LATER RUSH THROUGH EACH CHAPTER. AGAIN SHE CATERED ONLY TO THE ELITE STUDENTS OF THE CLASS. HER FAVOURIITE STUDENT AND DHEEPA'S FAVOURITE STUDENT WERE THE SAME BOY. HE IS ONE OF THE TOPPERS. CHEM SYLLABUS WAS COMPLETED IN FEBRUARY. NO PRACTICE PAPERS WERE DONE IN CLASS. INTENSIVE COACHINGS WERE THE BIGGEST WASTE. IT WAS LIKE 6 HRS OF FREE PERIOD MASTI.I AM JUST AMAZED AT HOW LOW A TECHER CAN STOOP DOWN TO FOR HER OWN BENEFITS . IT IS DISGUSTING. CHEM PRACTICALS USED TO BE FOOTBALL TIME. NO ONE KNEW THAT IN THE BOARD EXAMINATION SUPPLEMENTARY SHEETS ARE PROVIDED BY THE BOARD.

Anonymous said...

If the case about the current Math teacher and the Chem teacher are so blatantly clear, the school should try to get back some of the good teachers like Archana Kusurkar for math and Jayshree Sitaraman for Chem.
Infact these teachers were handling higher classes like Class XII and IB. The Principal/Management should look into this matter. Parents would prefer to have good teachers back rather than getting some unkown person from India everytime there is a need!!

Anonymous said...

All said and done, this looks like one more case of locking the stable after the horses have bolted. The entire lot of parents, especially those of classes IX to XII should have come together and raised their voice, asked the school to get its act right and all that. Just a few parents were crying hoarse and the rest were busy with their jobs and private work. All of us are educated, earning reasonably better than our brothers and sisters back home, know our rights and responsibilities. But with all that, we want somebody else to speak on our behalf on all issues. This is like the Indian voter. Look at the guts of GIIS!One year after IB results and full five days after the Senior Secondary results, the school continues to disown its students. What better do you expect from the school that runs after only celebrities!

Anonymous said...

As for parents coming together and acting against the school no one wanted their child to be victimised.Believe me a few students wee victimised because their parents dared to speak against the school.

Anonymous said...

How well said...we are all scared that our children would be witch hunted...we have decided that we cant fight this system called GIIS, but surely can make arrangements for our children to do well in their exams by shelling out extra funds for tuitions or else take the children out and put them in other renowned svhools catering to CBSE (those which have a name and fame to protect)...

Who was the chemsitry teacher who didnt give any practice papers for last years class xii.

ITs shocking that practicals were not done properly

I wish CBSE will look in to this blog.

DONE said...

"I wish CBSE will look into this blog"

Wishful thinking! Ashok Ganguly is known to be very loyal to AT-Dharma gang. Ganguly is waiting to retire and then join GIF as Academic Advisor (mark my words!).

Now about this blog. OK, this blog exposed many things we did not know about. Then Dharma writes parents a letter about this blog, saying he has 'examined' the blog and found it to be 'fake' and so on. So he can read it, right ? But when the DNA India journalist asks him about the blog's rebuttal he says he 'did not receive' it. He can't see the blog any more or what ! My point is, Dharma being a lawyer and ex-justice will know what to say to slip away from the law. First, he has not shared his contact address and avoids QT campus. All he needs for ignoring a mere blog like this is thick skin, and he already has it.

So parents, I tell you, this blog has come to the end of its usefulness. CBSE will not see the blog, Dharma will either call the blog fake or at other times will not see it, as it suits him.

Until parents come out to force these guys they will continue to ride on our backs and feed us their crap.

If we are too busy.. our children will suffer their whole lifetime for this so called education they are getting.

Premkumar said...

Why dont we approach Indian high Commission to get involved? Schools in Gulf are closely monitored by High commissions. As it is a waste of time to appeal to " thick skinned " individuals who are commercially motivated to the core, it is high time that we appeal to the High Commission to look into our grievances in the interest of our children. The local laws and GIF constituion may not permit. But surely the High commission can step in to stem the rot.

So great of the school to blame the students and not take responsibility for themselves.

Post CBSE Class Xii results

The principal has threatened the students of current class xii that they would be detained if they dont get more than 60 percent from July onwards in each subject.

They should stay back at school and study for 2 hours everyday.
This comment is laughable as
Staying back from 9.00 to 3.30 doesnt seem to have an impact.

And that too taught by the same teachers...... where ex class xii students have written how good they are.

And still, if the students dont improve they should stay back till 10 pm.

I wonder whether the principal realises that he is the laughing stock of the Indian community in Singapore making negative comments, calling the children fools, talking rudely to the teachers and parents.

He talks negatively to the kids to make them do positive things.

And if the students dont stay back they would be marked absent and in february they would write to cbse board that they do not have enough attendance. So is he expecting the parents to be frightened.

A group of parents have joined together and discussions are going on to complain to the MOE and seek their help in the matter of how the students have to be treated in the school and not called barbarians.

GIIS needs not only teachers to teach effectively to maximise results but teen counselling too....

And worst is they have told students not to go for tuitions.

I think GIIS wants the students of Class XII not to have a future at all.

They have suggested self study as an alternative.

Hello Mr.Rao, you need to stop threatening, and insulting students. You need to talk to them in a positive manner to get positive results. This is not INdia where parents are fighting for seats in your school. You charge parents a premium and give them such poor quality.

Parents are your customers.

Remember GIIS has grown from 10 students to the numbers you claim now because of Parents.

Learn to treat everyone well.

OTherwise please take the Mahatma GAndhi statue out of your school.

Dont think GIIS is immune to all this. The same parents would be withdrawing as now you have DPS which is also starting CBSE & NPS as well.

You need to counter competition not by empty threats, but talk to students in a positive manner.

I seriously think the existing principal has a huge attitude problem and Atul needs to do something about this. He has been rude to many parents.

GIIS is “A School That Cares”.

Following the School Motto, “Striving to Achieve Higher Goals” the school works in the direction of providing CENTRAL BOARD OF SECONDARY EDUCATION, New Delhi, curriculum.

Imparting quality education leading to the achievement of academic excellence our vigilant and caring faculty assures inculcating amongst children valuable traits.

The values include imagination, creativity, ambition, perseverance, initiative, maturity, resourcefulness and sense of responsibility amongst students. Good habits of discipline, personal management, time management, emphatic communication, creative co-operation and balanced self improvement must be instilled in the children.

GIIS aims to develop students

who are able to think, achieve and excel in everything they do

who are willing to strive, take pride in work and value working with others

who are able to seek process and apply knowledge

who are enterprising and innovative

who believe in their ability and possess a strong foundation for further education

who are able to think independently and creatively

This is the mission statement in GIIS. A school that cares.......

If it really cares, it would first request the bloggers to come down and discuss things, take initiative and make changes.

School also needs to take a serious stance against teachers giving personal coaching

A few teachers bombard the students to come for personal coaching.

ref: message from Premkumar.
I support this. In fact High Commission involvement is just right in the sequence of steps 9,10,11 as given in the blueprint for action . I understand that these came from a few concerned parents' suggestions on the topic of "how to rescue the school" (dates back to a time even before the fee hike). It must be clear now that the fee hike is not the real issue, in fact the issue is the misguided and totally unsupervised and uncontrolled way the school is going.

I think a focussed email group is the best way to start this off. Or we can meet in condo/locality groups. Then we can assign individual responsibilities and proceeed. There is no fear of victimization of your child, as we will not go to GIIS/GIF directly but through the High Commission.

Talking of the attitude of the principal well V.Principal J.A has absolutely no administrative qualities as well...she tries to please everyone.... absolutely ineffective...no control whatsoever ... i guess if DPS starts their cbse branch there will definitely be a huge switchover....prblem with queenstown campus is it has grown too big in too short a time with useless administrative heads.

I am a parent of one of the 12th commerce students in giis....i just wanted to bring the problem of the economics teacher. the problem my child is telling me is that she does not follow the ncert text but a simple guide and none of the concepts are being understood by more than half of the class in which only 7 students are there.and even whn she teaches she always deviates from one concept to another and also explaing her whole family story...which distracts the students and make them lose the intrest and the mood to study. but now all the students have spoken to the principal about this matter.lets see wht he does about it.

Anonymous said...

Dear parent regarding 12th commerce : You did absolutely right thing by having the problem as of now on written record. We can give three-four days for principal to reply what he will be doing. As it is on record now please copy principals reply also to blog if you get it (any reply ).

It is quite serious matter for the students future. Then let us see what principal says and what he does.

good luck

Just wondering is this blog for the betterment of GIIS or promoting DPS and NPS. I read somewhere above that if DPS switches over to CBSE....students moving to DPS. But in the first place are DPS teachers doing a good job?? Im afraid not.... Have friends saying tht DPS is in worst shape with teachers resigning.. So please keep this blog free frm promoting other schools and look for the betterment of GIIS

Anonymous said...

Agree partly with above, that running away to DPS is not going to solve problems you are having at GIIS. But why put blame the blog for what is written by any somebody (who is just like you and me).

As GIIS parents our motivation is not betterment of DPS or NPS or others. Let us keep an eye on what is happening, look at the facts and try to improve GIIS... if parents and teachers work together we can do it !

What about class X results ?

any idea how the school has done ?

I dont think NPS needs any blog for betterment.

Good institutions which have a reputation at stake do not need advertisements, cheap celebrity clouts.

Which good educational institution in India advertises film stars & cricketers visits like this?????

Atleast in chennai, I dont know of any such school.

And even here good schools such as UWC, SAS dont advertise, and they dont take students unlimitedly. They have a huge waitlist.......inspite of the fees.

Anonymous said...

The above comment itself shows that people who are connected to NPS are blogging in. Otherwise why would any parent attached to GIIS speak in favour of NPS....

DP said...

I don't have a problem if some parents here say NPS is good. It doesn't affect me as NPS is not an option for me and same is true with some other GIIS parents I know. For me NPS fees are too high, and for some of those parents who think they can afford they have not switched as NPS is too far and transport is an issue (NPS does not provide transport). Anyway, why discuss NPS ? Only because you brought it up!

But if you are saying that GIIS parents should be so attached to GIIS and blindly in love with GIIS, no matter what wrong the management commits (now it is happening repeatedly and brazenly), I STRONGLY DISAGREE.

Don't you think our school should PUBLISH RESULTS PROPERLY even if the result is not looking good for advertisement purposes ?

Don't you think you and I should have some avenue like a Parent Teacher Association (PTA body) which can hear grievances and problems and get answers from school management ?

Don't you think school principal and others should take better care of the MONEY MATTERS and give us account of HOW/WHERE THE MONEY WE PAY AS FEES is spent ?

Don't you think our school should stop making FALSE CLAIMS and MISLEADING claims to deceive the newcomer parents ?

Don't you want your child to be PROUD of the school even two years down the road ?

If you answer 'no' to any one of the above please explain why you say so.

For the comment by DP

"WELL SAID"

FYI

FOR NPS as an option ,

PARENTS OF CLASSES 10,11 & 12 DONT

HAVE AN OPTION.

And for your information, I am not an ardent supporter of NPS. Neither am I linked to the Management. I am a frustrated parent whose child is in higher class.

But for those lovers of GIIS, you need some rude shock such as class xii results.............

Even the students are ashamed to be part of the Great GIIS Alumni.

Pl ask the outgoing batches... on how do they feel about the school

Some of the QT Class X students with Principal Mr Rao and Ms Renu

Class X students of GIIS Queenstown and RSK, Trichy have achieved a coup in CBSE with a 100% high-scoring result. The brilliant result reflects the expert guidance from teachers and diligence from students in all academic subjects. GIIS has always upheld achievement in education as its forte. The credit goes to all our teachers who have always encouraged the students to go beyond their perimeter to explore their full potential. The passing batch of Class X students have continued to do this. Our Principals and Vice-Principals have been the main source of inspiration in the achievement of good grades. They have continued to motivate the students and the teachers to do their best.

At Queenstown campus, this year's commendable success of the Class X students is a matter of pride for all - students, parents and teachers. According to Ms. Jayanthi, Vice Principal, Secondary School, the credit for the excellent results can be attributed to many new and different steps taken towards the success at the Board Exam. Foremost amongst these was the Benchmarking exercise, where each student in the class set an improvement target for herself. This initiative of Benchmarking was aptly supported by the Mentorship Programme under which each student was guided by a teacher to develop & implement strategies for achieving the targets set during the process of benchmarking.

The other initiatives implemented this year were timely completion of the syllabus, extra classes during the summer holidays, additional tutoring after school hours, guidance & workshops on effective study strategies, exam writing skills and time management techniques. The test series conducted by the school also contributed a lot to improve and increase the confidence of the students prior the board examinations. These initiatives ensured that the students were very well guided on their way to a peak performance.

"Undoubtedly the excellent teamwork of students who gave their best; parents, who constantly supported and motivated them and teachers who showered all their knowledge, attention and guidance on the students has borne fruit in the form of our students' achievements at the Boards," says Ms Jayanthi. .

We congratulate all GIIS students for the excellent achievements.

Mr. Rao and Mr. Joshi and Ms. Jayanthi- no body is living in a fools world and so all your big talks regarding the class x results are utter rubbish. If you could publish the class x results then where are the class xii results? Are you ashamed of the class xii results? Glad that you played around with the future of the 32 students and do not have the courage and decency to accept the results. A good school is one which basks in the accolades of its students and also accepts the rsponsibility of any failures. Anyway GIIS is far away from it.Looks like GIIS is not capable of handling class xii and hence they should discontinue with it.Class xii requires very high level of teachers which certainly giis does not have. Otherwise why did the photograph of the class x students have only the Principal and Ms. Renu Rustogi? What happened to all the other teachers who also had put in their hard work? Don't they also deserve some praise(the school will come out saying that nobody was available)? The school published the highest marks for all subjects except French(Highest 88%)and business studies and art. Why? Is it because in these subjects the highest was in 80s? The school is really taking all the parents for a ride but they forget that the salary for Mr. Rao and his so called sodiers come from the fees paid by the students.
Anyway I would like to congratulate the students of class X for their brilliant results.Don't continue your class xii in giis otherwise you will suffer like the first batch.

can any class x parents please report on the class AVERAGE marks ? Average tells something about quality of teaching than marks of toppers (1 or 2 best students).

Anyway 100% pass is a good point, but it is a must.
thanks

As a student of the 12th batch that has just passed out, i would like to share my views on our results, which turned out to be nothing short of disastrous. Firstly I personally believe that the teachers were not the sole reason for it, and neither were the students.

Imagine a days work for a teacher, work long hours, make new worksheets, mark them, take crap from students, from management, and above all not be given any sort of recognition for all the work at the end of the day, and remain poorly paid. At the end of the day all incentive is practically sapped out, they end up hating job! If they are treated like that by the school, why would they want to go so far?

As far as the effort they put in, it was undoubtably going out of their way. Extra help was given to anyone who asked for it. But then the question arises where did the results go wrong...

The environment in class was probably very different from one you would expect to find in an Indian class room, understandably so, as we have been living here long enough and the world around us is pretty different, we want something interactive, something a little more exciting because thats what we have seen in our earlier education out here, why should it be any different... So is it the students fault?.. or the environment in the class?.. perhaps with a little different technique the teachers could have taught us better, or perhaps with a little more seriousness we would have performed better.

From a students point of view, imagine someone living far away from india being told about how he needs to be serious and be like the millions of students in india, when there are hardly any resources to help him out. To top it off, you see the only person who would be able to help you out of this crisis, your teacher, so discouraged and sapped out herself. And add the icing on the cake with the principal coming along every now and then to tell how pathetic you are, where do you find the motivation?.. or belief that something can be done, if the principal himself is sure that there is no way in hell you are going to do well. I would suggest Mr. Rao to read some books about psychology and how such things affect the thinking.

The school also fails to have any sort of admission criteria, they take in just about anyone who has the money, now if the input is not good, there is no point in expecting good output. But it still remains their duty to help the students in whichever way possible, motivation is the key.
If they only manage to tell us how much of a disadvantage we are at, we would end up feeling that way..
Infact their policies have managed to spur feelings of defaince in the students.

I would like to conclude by saying that fingers should not be pointed at individual teachers, they are very experienced, and whatever we did manage to get was because of them, they taught us only for the love of teaching, and we should respect that and give them the credit they deserve. As for the managent, its is beyond pathetic, ever since Mr. Nandakumar left we have never had a proper principal. The people who come in to teach here, and to the many principals who may join or are already running the school, the most important thing about the place is that it is in SINGAPORE not some village in INDIA, so try running it in a way that is acceptable here. Hugging is not offensive to anyone, Mr. Rao, and students should not be threatened for expulsion on those grounds.

From a student from the same batch

Accepting that all teachers are not the same, I would like to share my views on the chemistry teacher who claims credit for this years results.

The portions was finished for class xii in January for March Board Examinations

The sample papers were printed from cbseguess.com which the students can print it out themselves.

She was allowed by Joshi to take tuitions. And a student who took tuitions failed in the subject

She was not interested in giving extra help and used to hard sell her tuitions to the students.

Continuing to do the same this year.

Wrong strategies used by teachers.

1. CBSE issues sample papers every year. For example in Maths, 45 marks in the Board came out of the CBSE issued sample papers.
But the school did not follow that.

2. Again, the Teachers have no idea of what CBSE wants. Xeroxes of together guide would be given as assignments to do the sums. Not all the sums in the guide are cbse relevant

3. CBSE - Expected Questions - Chapter wise from past papers have to be given right from the beginning of the year, for the students to get thorough with the basics. Indian schools practise that

4. Chapterwise marks weightage are not followed by the teachers.

5. Settng tough papers doesnt necessarily equivalent to improved marks.

6. The students can get better by giving continous reinforcements and revisions and not only by completing portions

The school should strictly disallow tuitions by teachers.

Credit goes to Biology teacher who really helped the students

Anonymous said...

Vice-Principal urges students of 12th standard to take Tuitions from the Chemistry teacher Mrs.Latha ( the same teacher who is partly responsible for the ignominious results achieved by the school in the recent CBSE 12th Board exams).

The teacher has told the prospective students who will join her, that she will give the questions for the July exams BEFOREHAND,if they join tuitions with her.

The tuitions are to be conducted in her house, AND THESE ARE THE PROMISES GIVEN TO PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS. July Exams are conducted for students who are weak in that subject.

She might even promise that she will get some question papers for the boards beforehand, to entice students!!!!!!

Just one question - if the school teacher is good why should the students take tuitions outside - all the more stupid, why should they go to the same teacher and pay her again to improve in that subject ?

And even if the school wants to help the child, should they not organise these extra classes, in the premises of the school and pay the teacher extra to help students during the holidays.

Why should the students be penalised to pay for classes from the same teacher???

I am completely shocked & speechless when I heard that Mr.Joshi has asked the students to go to tuitions for Chemistry specifically from the same teacher.

Parents should think before they put their children under these teachers, as they will end up with results like last years.

This cannot be said of all teachers, as other teachers (such as Maths, Accounts, Economics)have not called the students for tuitions for the impending July Exams.

Matha, Pitha, Guru, Deva, as they say. Luckily, Deva is after Guru, so that Parents and Children can be saved from Gurus like Mr.Joshi and Mrs.Latha.

I hope the School Management does take action and help parents.

i would like to share my views on this point as well. cbse class 12 has suffered with chemistry. Teachers kept on changing and they taught them what they thought was correct. some students did not get any private tuitions from the current teacher as well. They had to struggle all on their own. despite all this, cbse class 12 managed to pull themselves.
The vice-principal, Mr.joshi, showed indifferent attitude to cbse class 12. He did not check on the progress of the subjects. If he had done that, would the chemistry syllabus be completed in january for the march board exams?? schools in india complete it by november and start revision by december. however, there are some teachers who need to be credited for their efforts. cbse class 12 being the FIRST BATCH, in a school like GIIS, studying an indian syllabus miles away from india where books and even experienced teachers are rare, they need to supported at this point of time. fingers should not be pointed alone at them. GIIS has experimented with 32 students that too at the most critical point of their lives.
cbse class 10 results cannot be compared to cbse class 12. cbse class 12 did struggle throughout the two years and no one would know it better than the students themselves. cbse class 10 was the 3rd batch. GIIS may continue their celebrations over the class 10 results but its a shame on their part to not accept the responsibility for the class 12 results. This shows the nature of the school and its management. They have a hand in whatever the students have gone through in the 2 years and all the struggles they put up with changing teachers or teachers who only concentrate on helping certain students, and in the end when the results are right in front their eyes, they refuse to accept it.

Anonymous said...

what about the average of each subject in class x ..that is a true reflection of the achievments.

Anonymous said...

The school staff and the management has experimented on the class 12 students and are now denying to take the responsibility of the poor performance shown by the students. The fact that the school is solely blaming the students for the bad results itself shows how guilty conscious the school is. The chemistry teacher Mrs.Latha took private tutions for some so called 'weak students at home without teh knowledge of many others in class. Why was the extra benefits delivered to a small percentage of the class? Why wasn't it informed to the others? Why couldn't she help students after staying back after school hours so that a few others who were also interested could stay back and clear their set of doubts. A little more efforts from the students side would have helped; but the school is undoubtedly wrong in pushing even their set of faults towards the students.

Anonymous said...

i would like to show the fact that the current chemistry teacher and the math teacher is really good.Ms Shrividhya had sone everything in her capacity to encourage students from studying and keeping the point the only one person has failed math.. i have come to an understanding that he had not attended the classes when he was called.she has taken up a lot of trouble to help 7 children from failing math and all those who have gone to her managed to pass. The Chemistry teacher is also an excellent.About Dheepa.. well she's a bitch.. i agree with that.. too much politics

Anonymous said...

School teachers should not be allowed to take tuitions for the school students as this would be blatant exploitation.

The chemistry teacher by the way has told frankly to everyone that this is her first batch.

So this reflects on the school selection criteria of teachers and their cbse experience or the authenticity of such experience shown.

Its so easy to point fingers to vicitimised students and blame them.

Looking at it from the students point of view, with pressure from both parents and teachers, with inefficent teaching ways, finishing syllabus late, with little cbse experience, and having little interest in giving extra coaching free of cost to students owing to the poor pay by giis (not all teachers), the students look forward to a bleak future thanks to Mr.Atul, Mr.Joshi & other cbse veterans.

They should ask the outgoing batch on where they went wrong instead of giving parties for the outgoing batch. And for the chemistry teacher, there should be a poll done on whether she deserves credit or the students studied themselves. A teacher who finished portions only in January with no time for revisions to be done cannot claim any credit for the students performance in the subject.

I said...

Hi everyone! I'm back from maybe a month or so of hibernation. And what woke me up ? That comment by a parent saying the chemistry teacher is good.Wow.

I refuse to acknowledge that. Just because Latha makes everything 'Oh-so-well-presented', the parents think that she's a highly qualified professional. For your kind information, she isn't. She shows too much favour to 12A,and she picks on many students. On top of that she plagiarizes mock exam papers.

Forget the fact that she has no experience in CBSE.She had told many people that she had this big "Institution" in India and all sorts of crap.If so,why couldn't she even achieve a 100% pass result? She manipulates, lies, and what not.

And mrs.Deepa is completely out of the subject now.Don't cry about the past, work on the present.(Note : Mrs Deepa was WAYYYY better than Latha and co.) . Now it has come to my notice that the great Latha has started her own tuition center. That is amazing.Congratulations!!!

Reminder : Think about it dear Parents, how can a teacher, who is unable and unfit to set a mock paper,be a good teacher.

My Advice : Don't look at anything other than experience and expertise, which the chemistry teacher Latha clearly lacks.

Adios.

As a parent, who has seen this blog for the first time, I am shocked at the happennings of the school.

I wonder how Mr.Atul has allowed the school teachers to operate tuition centers and take students from the school. Its not right ethical practise for the teachers to do that. My child is yet to reach the higher classes.

But the way the school is going, I hope Mr.Atul, Mr.Rao will put a stop to this and focus on help and better output from the children.

If the management is looking at this blog, I still have hope GIIS would not turn out to be for the worst but only for the better.

Here is the action - Mail to CBSE directly!

Check it out and hope you all will support - Affected Parent

Fri, Jun 13, 2008 at 12:14 PM
To: secy-cbse@nic.in, mcsharma.cbse@nic.in, director.cbse@nic.in, ramas.cbse@nic.in

This is a serious matter. Please pay attention to the details in the mail and the blog as listed. It affects 1000s of Indian kids!

Dear Sir,

This is to bring to your kind notice that the Global Indian International School in Singapore has many irregularities and poor quality of standards that do not meet expectations of CBSE as, they are providing a educational service that has horrendous level of teaching, pathetic recruitment process to get teachers on board and above all focusing only on commercialization of the school as a business entity than as an education provider.

The poor quality of results as you can see in a one page report in this Parents Grievances Blog is testimony to the statements made in this complaint. The management is absolutely inexperienced in education business and is just rampantly increasing its presence in different countries catching on the opportunity to gain the untapped market for Indian education in the South East Asian Countries. Parents ignorance, helplessness and desperation to have Indian education has been extensively exploited by GIIS Management. Please read the cries of Parents in the comments section here.

One simple instance of an evidence is the bullying tactics of the school which denied my child an opportunity to get re-totaling done for Maths score that is pathetic as you can see in the blog. They denied issuing Marks sheet and the re-totaling forms until we paid a fee for a "so called" graduation dress. We lost the opportunity as, we also left the country to pursue other opportunities for the child's higher education. The marks are frozen and the future education is at stake.

We as parents are victimized, helpless, frustrated and are devastated completely by the brutality of the management of GIIS, Singapore which is unfortunately a CBSE approved school that does not even stand a chance to pass the stringent standards of CBSE.. There seems to be no control over the following and hope that this mail will alert the vigilance control to straighten the matters and help the parents and potential victims in the future.:

1. Quality of Teachers recruited: Most of the teachers are inexperienced, adhoc and poor in teaching. There seems to be no background check on them before recruitment. Many of them seem to have been from a large pool of expats wives who are actually not teachers and have managed to use their status of migration in Singapore to gain employment and catch some experience at the cost of the future of our kids. Thus, there is absolutely no consistency in the quality of teachers across the board.

2. Monitoring methods in maintaining the standards of teaching CBSE subjects: Neither the school nor the CBSE has any formal methods to check the pathetic state in GIIS especially, handling higher classes - X, XI & XII being their first batch coming out of the school

3. Uncontrolled Pricing structure: There is absolutely no rationalization nor any concern over the cries for good quality teaching and there is only a one sided autocracy of perpetual increase of fees in the name of improvement of quality education. On the contrary, there is a negative trend in the school's reputation due to poor quality of education.

4. Irregularities in Compliance to CBSE Norms: The school started Tution classes after school hours using the staff from the same pool of teachers who were teaching the CBSE subjects and they wooed the parents to signing up their children for these Tutions by instilling a phobia. Again, an attempt to grab the helpless condition to turn it to a money spinning opportunity. The fact that they started Tutions is a sufficient proof of their incompetence and inability to cope with the time allocated for subjects due to constant commercials events launched by the school to build their business eating into the valuable education time of the students.

5.School turns the Trust based "Non-Profit" Management into a Commercial "For Profit" venture: Being very elated about the role of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, a "Non-profit organization", we gained the needed initial impetus and confidence to admit our kids to the school. But, to our horror, we were trapped by a greedy Management who worked through this camouflage and cheated the parents making them feel that they were under the care of a "so called" governance of a Trust based entity. The Management took complete control over the erstwhile establishment that we always thought was a "Non-profit Institution" and has gobbled up countless amounts of money without being transparent to the parents, the source of all these monies.

Please Sir, do give relief to the parents who are suffering with the pathetic quality of overall results in the CBSE XII in the year 2008 as, most of them are in an absolute dilemma and quagmire having no confidence or direction of their future. Many kids have not got admissions to pursue further studies.

This is a request on behalf of the 1000s of parents of the kids in GIIS to get a solace to the problem and we earnestly request you to investigate and take control over the situation and relieve the tense atmosphere that prevails in the tender minds of our kids and us, the helpless parents!

Looking forward to your kind attention and help.

On Behalf of the Parents of Kids of GIIS, Singapore

Affected Parent

@giis who wrote the love letter to cbse... If u are not aware Mr.Ashok Ganguly is a very well known well wisher of Mr.Atul and gang..He'll join the GIIS advisory league and get some pocket money from the losers who try to steal your money.
The most pityful thing is that you are accusing Ms.Lata of runnng tution centre but have any of you ever found out how successful in her tution. If you losers hope that your child passes chemistry she's the teacher for it.
And one other thing thing for all you know atul might be reading this blog with some pop corn in his hand and then send and e-mail to all the parents on not to believe this crap.If u want to get some thing done.Don't go and whine about it on the net.Get ur ass to the Indian HICOM and lodge a complaint.
And yes i am a student hoping something good will happen

^^ Only losers like you who have no clear ambition in life and are still dependent on parents will go to Latha's tuitions.

Oh,we saw results for sure man! One student who went to Latha failed chemistry. Amazing right ?

The student above has clearly shown what a retard he is.

If you think you can really go to the high commission and get something done ? You're wrong, and it contradicts you, as Indians are corrupt.

And if Atul hasn't done something yet about his school already,he has no shame.

You know what ? It is students like you who don't take a stand and fight for your rights that are losers. You can say all this but you will burden this task upon your parents.

If i put that in simple words, you have NO GUTS.

I agree with the comments of the affected parents and students as I myself am a student of GIIS in one of the higher classes.
I had joined here unknowingly looking at advertisements and the school's website thinking that it was the one wonder school which I could join and that it was a gifted oppurtunity. However now I regret my choice as I have no choice but to complete my boards in this ridiculous school as no schools in India would take you in for admission for 9th and 10th standard.
As of the schools bad results, the 12th and IB students are always seen in the canteen listening to their ipods whatever, playing on their handphones laptops etc and doing "things" with their so-called boy and girl friends. If anything out of the ordinary happens-such as a house won,or its someones birthday,or a spscific student passed:the whole of the next 2 days are spent on partying with a special delivery either from Pizza Hut or Mcdonalds.
The use of notebooks without the school logo is prohobited with the schools notebooks being priced overratedly with less pages and bad quality. The school has many more ideas up its sleeves so that ot can reap the maximum paisa from its students.
The teachers are the worst also.Nothing which the new physics teacher-Mr Philipson says is understandable. He tells us students not to write notes in the notebook but write only specific questions and answers, that too being marked with just ticks and not looking whether the answer is correct or wrong.Chemistry teacner Ms.Srilatha is quite good with teaching the basic concepts however she says that ICSE is far more better than Cbse.I will continue my report in the name of ASTUDENT in the following days....

get better teachers said...

From Santiago Times reporting on education:
An official from Singapore said, “You can have a good curriculum, the best infrastructure and the best policies, but if you don’t have good teachers, all of these things are worthless.”

Global Indian, if you don't want to be called worthless very soon, stop globalizing on our money, and instead, give us better teachers for CBSE 10,11,12.

(Do not get me wrong as I am not implying that classes below 10 are not important. But you agree that GIIS will soon be called worthless if classes 10,11,12 are the weakest point of the school)

Present class xii students have all moved ahead and gone to India to pursue higher studies. They did not get into the local uni. Only 2 got it. The cut off matks for the international indian students this year was 95% yet these two got it with 91% and 82%.If I am not mistaken therewas a 90% and a 86% before the 82%. But they did not make it to the local uni.So much for this place being fair. All this thanks to the school.Anyway I applaud the students who have gone back to India for making a right decision.

Hello! Then how did GIIS claim in the recent news paper advert (and email too) that students have got placements into prestigious universities ? is it a false claim ?

Anonymous said...

hey infernus,
i agree with you that the education in giis is of substandard quality, and some of the teachers are horrible. but that gives us no right for open critism of people like that on this blog.

Latha doesn't become a horrible teacher just because one person failed her class. it's the student's responsibility too. maybe the said student didn't study hard enough, what do you know?

I am noticing that on this blog, people openly criticise teachers and other staff after every result comes out. This blog, instead of being a "parents' voice for a better giis", has become a "voice of students who failed because they didnt do well".

Tell me, why would anyone post rude comments on this blog if they have done well in their exams and everything is sailing happily? Well obviously, it gives them a chance to blame someone other than themselves.

i agree with the comments about deepa narayanan.

Ethics, be it humane or professional, is something which the Principal and the owner lack.

The so called "administration" office actually looks like a disorganized garbage dump.

Plasma TV's , Bose soundsystems , and contemporary furniture in the Office doesn't make you an international school.

Look at one of the top schools in India, PSBB in Chennai, they have Plasma TV's in every single classroom.

Don't call yourself "Global" or "International",for you do not represent globalization.

Look at the school toilets :D

They turned back to India juz bcos they couldnt get admsn anywhr nearby and end up joining some self aided college paying a huge sum of capitation fees or thru sme quota which our native introduces every nw and then..!!

And falling short of basics they are going to find a tough time pursuing their engg(which most of them in the batch r doin)n certinly the worst part is yet to come... Very sad to say this but i guess frankly speaking this wad the lives of atleast 25 of the students has become.. I m a class 10 student who has passed out of the sch.and boy, am i happy that i passed my math! considering that we dint have a math teacher for 4 mths..and the sch took NO action to ensure we had a teacher. Thanks to ms.srividhya who came to complete the syllabus for us..we passed and mind u...she was not appointed nor was she told by any of the staff to become our maths teacher.she did it for the students..
yes...i agree that some teachers are not "up to the standard" but please stop pinpointing teachers here....

Ex Class 12th said...

And needless to say dheepa narayanan spilt the class into pieces before she left. Too much of politics. And she was always intrestd in her fav students and sppent majority of her periods with him and he could get away with anything he does. And 3 poor frens of mine had to redo the journal bcos of her fault.

But the maths teacher was not so, she was relly a moral support for us. Without her presence i doubt we would have done any better. Pls get away frm GIIS, its impossible to correct them in a 100years!

How stupid could people get ?

We are not going to get anything from this school if we're not gonna pinpoint teachers.

Taking direct action is the only way to solve this.

You can't expect to have contructive discussions and make the school automatically serve you your silver platter.

YOU HAVE TO FIGHT FOR IT.

So now, what right do you have to judge us?

Education is not a part of basics,it is secondary. When we were in primitivism , did we have education ? No.

Gothica, your comment on Rao seems a bit extreme and pointless. I do not understand what you are trying to imply..please clarify..

I do not know GSS Rao, but from your extreme comments I feel rather apprehensive about joining the school again. The school is without a doubt, in a lamentable condition. Parents who sent their kids here with the overly dramatised idea of 'creating global students' are sorely disappointed.

Being a kid, i might not know what it feels like to see someone splurging my earned money, but i definitely can relate to it. The school freely spends monumental amounts of money, when the campus is in terrible condition.

The school is only interested in expanding..recklessly opening new branches in different locations when it has not thought about improving a single campus. I seriously wonder if what they do in the QT campus is legal. Broom cupboards and storerooms are being converted to classrooms. Half the library was converted into a classroom. Parents who signed their kids up for the school with sanguine expectations that their kids would adopt 'precious indian values' must be fuming miserable at their ill-fated choice.

things like this happen said...

Hi guys: I really don't know what is happening but you all have too big a problem in your hands to solve. It is not "right" for you to complain alone because you didn't pay the fees, your parents did. They are the customers with locus standi. If you have not informed and convinced the parent body (like PTA or PSG whatever you have or your own parents or your friends parents) then who is on your side ? No parents at all ? So the question will be, is it that you are disgruntled because gss rao scolded you ? (I know it is not that)

Ok. Do you have a plan of action ? If not you will not achieve much, just like this blog despite all good intentions.

Also worse things, like the news about a school going out of business leaving students high and dry. This kind of thing is scary. It is a US school. The reason reported is, curiously, somebody in India spent the money as it was run by Indian green card holders. Sounds similar right ? And man, your parents don't even have a clue where all the GIIS money goes, to which countries, and for what. On top of that if just one parent sues GIIS for damages of a few mils.. or GIIS walk into some lawsuits and you know.. the school can go out of business and where is the safety net ? Is there any fees insurance ? Right now the problem is only poor results so it is better to take action before it gets worse and some of these ex-parents think of taking action against school... otherwise all this talk will have no result.

Even if no problems like that happen, and GIIS continues in exactly the same level as now.. come next year this blog will publish the class 12 result and for all you know the same or more students can fail.. And if you pass your dad will surely be paying the capitation fee in some india private college....is that the destiny or can you change it?

If you can change it you need some action plan and parents support.. boy, where are we heading!

Third - 39 pts

fourth - 37 pts

the rest got below 35.

3 people didn't make it. They flunked the diploma.

I presume that the person who got 45 made it by herself.

Don't take credit again,GIIS.

And i bet,if they do post this on the website, they wouldn't include the bad results.

From a concerned ex parent

There was a retest conducted by GIIS for conditional promotion students from Class XI to Class XII & class ix to class x.

They had passed one child and are detaininng 10 students. All schools have average, above average, outstanding and below average students in academics.

They are termed this way not intentionally but based on marks.
The below average students are intelligent but lack focus, organisational skills, short concentration spans, and proper guidance.

These students can ace exams if proper strategies, guidance, appreciation are enforced.

If all schools fail students who are on the bottom level of scoring marks, most schools should be out of business.

Doesnt Mr.Rao realise that if GIIS doesnt want these students now, why did they take them when they started the school that is at 7th /8th std. Was MR.Rao in GIIS then????

Did they take 4 to 5 years to realise that these students are not fit for sitting for the Boards.

And these students have done very well in their 10th Boards??

They will do well in 12th Boards too, but since the school had these failures in last years results, they do not want these students to appear and tarnish the schools name.

But didnt Mr.Atul realise this when he started the school and took in students with a namesake entrance, 5 years back.

Now Mr.Atul doesnt get involved in these spheres, in which case he should realise that these are the results of his decision, and he cannot make the students suffer for his selfish reasons for a better result.

And the way the parents are being treated, by Mr.Rao and Mr.Joshi, people would think that GIIS is giving education for charity.

No child is bad. Making them do another year of 9th or 11th, will definitely not help. The parents are willing to spend on tuitions, and so the school can help by giving some additional coaching, instead of running away from their responsibility.

GIIS is supposed to be an international school, which means that the child has to have an allrounded development and not only academics. If it wants only academics, it should not offer other courses.

Atul, I think its time you take the childs future, and his emotions into consideration, and talk to these students personally, along with the parents, and give them a chance to prove themselves.

The word has spread to INdia too that GIIS has a problem of dealing with parents, and Mr.,Rao is known to be popular for being a tyrant.

The dismal summer camp intake, and open house proves the point.

So do help these students, by giving a chance to them for a better tomorrow.

Dear Parents and Prospective Parents,
GIIS is not a school devoted for the quality of education. I am not attacking the teachers here. Rather, I am critising the management. Parents of 9th Std students should really consider sending their children to India for 10th. As for parents of 11th Std students, they can try to get their children into some school in India. Most schools hesitate to accept students into their 11Std cohort. Parents can try.
They have another option too. They can think of the local schools. They definitely cost less and provide very high standards of education. There are some drawbacks though. One of the biting drawbacks is that the GCE O Level and A Level results are not recognised well in India. A1 Grade does not translate well into 90%.It just becomes an average 75%. One good thing about A-Level or O-Level Qualification is that they are respected anywhere outside India. Colleges in the U.S.A, the U.K regard it well. So, the point is that if you are planning a foreign undergraduate education for your child, then the A-Level or O-Level qualifications will provide good leverage.
The GIIS fees are exorbitant. It’s too much for a money hungry garbage dump [with security cameras]. Why would a garbage dump need security cameras! .Well, I would not mind if I studied in a garbage dump that could provide good academic planning if not guaranteed good results. The planning in GIIS was/is/will be hopeless. I know that I am sounding too extremist. Pardon me. It is my gut feeling. I pity the current 12th class students. They better be on their toes and search for a school in India. GIIS should, for now, concentrate on the kindergarten. I do not mean that parents should send their small children to GIIS. The PAP kindergarten is cheaper. Please beware of your child’s English though. [Note: The management should not try to beautify the environment. They should first engage in good academic planning. What's a good school without good academic planning?]
There is one point that I want to drive into everyone. CBSE is an Indian System. CBSE can ONLY be taught well in India unless the management is very skilled. And, A-Level is practically the major qualification in local JCs. It can only be taught well by local schools. I heard a sick joke/rumour. A really sick one. GIIS is planning to provide O-Level syllabus too. Please do not get fooled. There is one more. GIIS is planning/has already planned AIEEE coaching. The management is shameless. It just fried a batch of students. Now, it’s getting ready for a second round. Imagine how much good will AIEEE coaching do if the fundamentals in CBSE are shaky. GIIS should understand this phrase very well: “QUALITY NOT QUANTITY”.

Some facts about GIIS for students( reader discretion is advised ):

GIIS has only two functional washrooms. Of course, one for each gender. Thank god!!!

The Houses [Sports groups] are the least active. I would not mind this if academics were strong.

There are nothing called field trips. Not that I would want one organized by GIIS. During admission, they claimed they had “engaging educational trips to complement school studies”.

GIIS, as far as I know, has only about 20 computers available for student use. 16 in the half-a-class sized computer lab and 4 in the library.

One computer science teacher does not know C++ (not Mr Rajesh, the other one).

GIIS has a fleet of vans and buses to ferry students. It is commendable. No school in Singapore does this.

The goalposts in the multi-purpose football/cricket/volleyball field are always on the move, ready to fall on the slightest exertion.

GIIS is the only school which promotes ball-game-harmony. Students interested in different ball games co-exist in the same and only field. What a pity?

GIIS has the ability to post some of the impossible photoshop pictures as advertisements on the net.

GIIS is money hungry. Find me someone who denies and you will laugh all the way to the bank.

GIIS is very inefficient in administrative matters which do not concern incoming money.

GIIS does not have the kids to sing the national anthem daily. I forgot the anthem. OMG!!!

A discipline master got into a quarrel. It would be nice to hear that a group of kindergarten children stopped the quarrel. Of course, the latter is not true.

GIIS is proud of one imaginary, highly classified motto “GIVE ME MONEY AND I WILL GET ANYTHING DONE FOR YOU”.

GIIS is about to fry a fresh batch of students. Get your cutlery ready.

GIIS has a book shop selling books at exorbitant prices. Price of a simple notebook in GIIS is $2.50. Popular sells it for $0.90.

GIIS sells CBSE textbooks at 300% original price. I could download a PDF version and print it for lesser than the GIIS price and have enough money to get a decent McDonald’s meal. Electricity bill for computer use is included.

GIIS forces students to pay for the lame blazers even if the students never touched the blazer. The school measures the students and orders blazers before asking if the students need blazers.

You know this one already....GIIS is in deep shit. LOL.

Infernus said...

"GIIS has a fleet of vans and buses to ferry students. It is commendable. No school in Singapore does this."

If you had enough brains you'd know that it's run by a private company and you pay for it. It's there in every other school.

Either:

1) You failed to gather knowledge before making that statement.

Or:

2) You have not lived in Singapore for a long time.

I hope it is the second.

There is no Local Junior College/Secondary School in SIngapore that transport students from home to school. In other words, I challenge you to find a MOE based local JC or secondary school which does that.

Please do try to check this up before you post. And, by the way, i have been here for 11 years now. Top that!!

Infernus said...

You didn't specify "JC" . You said NO OTHER SCHOOL in Singapore. So please make your point clear before countering mine.

All the other international schools have school bus services.

and JC's don't need one because they're situated very near to you,or have some kind of shuttle service. Most people choose JC's near to their homes, which explains why there are no school buses

And i've been here for 15 years, You top that.

Hi.,
GIIs actually sucks as they tell about having very good hostels with all the facilities.
But teh thing is there is the hostel is located at the corner of the singapore from where malaysia is very near by...(lol)so its better to go to malaysia giis as compared to the distance of singapore giis (queenstown $ siglap)

The hostel provides u with same $ same food daily (and the meals mostly contains rice and dal) which always suckkxxx......The other meals are all ready made food items (French fries, spring roll) all from cold storage...

The hostel provides the best facility for the students who wana escape in the night as the warden has her own house which is on the floor of the girls i.e. 8th floor and the guys have to stay on 3rd floor....

The warden is so old that she cant do up down. SHe almost 60+..As old ppl tend to shout more on children its the worst for all the hostelites to stay there...

The hostel is totaly without aircon which has lots of heat stored inside the rooms...Its lyk students stay naked inside the rooms.....

Thaats soo shamefull for GIIS as they have got these rich peoples son-daughter from different countries and keeping them in this F***ng environment....

This is soo sad...GIIS U SUCCKKZZ

The remaining part will be cont soon.....
